Portion of North Avenue to Close this Evening Due to Sinkhole in Sidewalk

One lane of through traffic in each direction anticipated to reopen for the Tuesday morning commute

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of North Avenue will soon close this evening due to a sinkhole in the sidewalk.

Starting at approximately 7:00 p.m. this evening, Monday, July 4, 2022, North Avenue will be closed to through traffic in both directions between Greenmount Avenue and Homewood Avenue with detours in effect.  All westbound through traffic will be detoured at Homewood Avenue, and eastbound through traffic will be detoured at Greenmount Avenue.  Motorists are advised to follow the suggested detours listed below:

  • Eastbound North Avenue traffic will be detoured onto northbound Greenmount Avenue, to eastbound 25th Street, to southbound Harford Road back onto eastbound North Avenue.
  • Westbound North Avenue traffic will be detoured onto northbound Homewood Avenue, to northbound Kirk Avenue, to westbound 25th Street to southbound Greenmount Avenue back to westbound North Avenue.

It is anticipated that one lane of through traffic will be reopened for motorists in each direction by approximately 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.  It is unclear at this time when the roadway will be fully reopened to traffic.

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should expect delays and are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes.
