Temporary Closure of S. Newkirk Street

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that a portion of S. Newkirk Street will temporarily close in order to perform maintenance work on the railroad crossing.

Starting at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, S. Newkirk Street will be closed to through traffic between Newgate Avenue and Holabird Avenue with detours in effect, weather permitting.  This portion of S. Newkirk Street will remain closed until approximately 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2022

During this time, vehicular traffic will not be permitted to cross the railroad tracks.  Local access to area businesses will be maintained during the closure.  Detour signs and variable message boards will be placed in the area to alert motorists of the closure.  Motorists trying to access S. Newkirk Street will be detoured along Newgate Avenue, New Vail Street, Keith Avenue, Broening Highway, Holabird Avenue and Ponca Street. 

Motorists traveling in this vicinity should be on the watch for changing traffic patterns and are encouraged to use alternate routes.
